Oblumi, the winning idea at Startup Weekend Sevilla 2013

After an intensive 54 hours, Oblumi has won the second edition of Startup Weekend Sevilla. It has been a really intense experience, and personally, I have learned a lot. It is an experience that really changes your life; you need to go out of your comfort zone.

Startup Weekend is an almost three-day entrepreneurship educational competitive event, in which groups of people form teams around ideas on Friday evening, and work during the weekend to develop a working prototype, demo, and VC presentation by Sunday evening. It's the second time that it's organized in Sevilla.

This type of event is great for the ecosystem. It inspires and motivates professionals in the city. It exposes and gives visibility to ideas and projects. It is really hard to get investment when you are working on an idea from a city like Sevilla.

Personally, I have learned that an incredible idea is only an idea, and you need more than that to build a business. The most important part of the event is when you create a team and join professionals who offer different skills than the one you have. I was lucky to find an amazing people with completely different backgrounds.

The second most important thing is that an idea needs to solve real problems in order to get people to pay for it. The idea could be cool, but if you do not solve a real painkiller, you won't get money for it, so you won't be able to build a business. As simple as that.
